After the exciting events and noteworthy competition from this Olympic season, we can take this chance to look back and see how the museum celebrated previous Winter Olympic Games.

In 1980, when the Olympics were held in Lake Placid, New York, a more than usual amount of interest was anticipated for the Games. An exhibit that showcased the Olympics of the past was presented, with medals and memorabilia donated from local Olympians as well as a large array of torches, flags, sculptures and photos.

But the museum staff didn’t stop there. As a way of engaging students and encouraging visits, the Games were broadcast live in the museum. Olympic stickers, pins and brochures were proffered up to entice students to come, along with free refreshments. Students, faculty and staff were able to sit and watch history unfold on-screen while surrounded by the memorabilia of Games gone by.
