The Illinois Distributed Museum (external link) is an interdisciplinary project mapping the places, people, and projects of innovation on the UIUC campus. Follow the pins on the site’s embedded map to take a tour of locations associated with discoveries. You’ll find markers for famous inventions like the LED, as well as lesser-known sites of research like the Research Residence on Stoughton Street in Urbana, used in the 1920s for experiments on forced air heating. You can also browse articles by people and impact or follow walking routes through early computing and the Bardeen Quad (the engineering buildings north of Green Street).
