Published Description

CORINTHIAN ARYBALLOS Shape and Ornament: Spherical body, round bottom, concave handle. Flat upper surface of mouth decorated with one wide band and several narrow concentric circles. One band on edge of rim. Two lines above the main frieze and three lines below. Three concentric bands on underside of base. Subject: On the body, three helmeted warriors marching left. Each carries a spear and is almost completely overlapped by the round shield held on his left arm. Crude cross on the reverse. About 575-550 B.C. -- Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 5, 1.
