Description

"A Chinese carved bamboo perfume holder, Qing Dynasty (18th century), well carved and pierced with designs of warrior on horseback in a landscape.

Bamboo (Babmusa arundinacea) is the most difficult wood to carve, and it represents longevity because it flourishes throughout the winter, In ancient China bamboo tablets were used instead of books. It is highly prized." - Bernie McManus, Appraiser, Woodbury House, Connecticut, 10/23/1999
