Outreach Programs

Recent fee changes in Education offerings are not reflected here. Please ask about these changes when contacting Education staff.

These programs are available as outreach to schools and libraries within a 75-mile radius of the Museum. The cost is $55 for institutions within 50 miles of the Museum and $75 for those 51-75 miles away. This fee covers up to three programs by one staff member in one day. As time permits, extra programs can be added for $10 each.

Please read our current list of available dates and further information about reserving programs and tours. In addition, the information detailed online is available in our downloadable program booklet (PDF, 1.2MB).

To schedule a tour or program, Brook Taylor (Office hours Tuesday through Saturday) at (217) 265-0474 or at least three weeks prior to your visit date with the following information:

  • the desired program
  • the date and time you wish to visit—check the Museum’s availability webpage
  • the grade level and number of students involved
  • your contact name, phone number, and email address
  • any questions you may have about your program or the Museum
  • special needs and other relevant information

The availability of these tours and programs is limited. Please contact the Museum early in the school year to reserve your dates.

Documentation Policy: The Spurlock Museum staff frequently videotapes or photographs visitors enjoying Museum programs, tours, special events, or individual time in our galleries. All videotape and photographs are used at the Museum’s discretion and become its sole property. Images are used in various Museum publications and as documentation for reports. The names of the people recorded are not used.

Oral Traditions

Learn the values, histories, and traditions of cultures around the world through their folktales and myths.

Ancient Connections

These popular programs explore the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. There may be special funding available for participation in any of our Ancient Connections programs.

Medieval European Life

Students go back in time through hands-on experience with medieval technologies, games, stories, and artifacts.

Special Programs

The Spurlock Museum brings visiting ethnic and folk artists to the Champaign-Urbana area for outreach appearances in the schools and performances in special school programs held at the Museum, as well as public concerts, demonstrations, and workshops.
