Illinois Theatre: we make theatre makers

Talk: A Conversation with Sandra Marquez and Lisa Gaye Dixon

Please join Illinois Theatre for a conversation between MFA alumna Sandra Marquez and Professor Lisa Gaye Dixon.

Sandra Marquez is an actor, director and educator, as well as a longtime ensemble member of Teatro Vista, the Midwest’s only Equity Latino theater company where she served as the company’s Associate Artistic Director from 1998–2006.

She was recently inducted into the esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre Ensemble where her most recent appearance was in Tracey Lett’s Mary Page Marlowe. Ms. Marquez has worked at respected venues in Chicago and beyond, including The Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, Victory Gardens, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Madison Repertory and off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre Uptown. She has been nominated for Jeff Awards for Best Actress for her work in 26 Miles and Living Out, and she received a Jeff Award for her portrayal of Beatrice in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge. She most recently directed Men on the Verge of Hispanic Breakdown for Pride Films & Plays and My Manana Comes for Teatro Vista.

This season she will return to the Court Theatre to play Clytemnestra in what is being called the Iphigenia Cycle: productions of Iphigenia at Aulis, Agamemnon and Electra over three seasons. She has been a member of the theatre faculty at Northwestern University since 1995 where she very much enjoys teaching and mentoring young people.

This event is presented by Illinois Theatre.
