Rindik

Xylophones made of bamboo are found throughout Bali. Sometimes xylophones of different sizes are grouped together to form ensembles; sometimes they are played solo. You tell Nyoman you saw people playing a pair of them at the airport when you first arrived, and since then you have seen several pairs being played in hotel lobbies or restaurants. Rindik sound softer, sweeter and quieter than the very loud bronze ensembles you’ve heard in ceremonial contexts.
