Gamelan Selonding
Nyoman tells you about a wealthy friend who is interested in older gamelan styles. A few days later he takes you to this man’s home to watch a rehearsal of gamelan selonding. This gamelan was once associated with villages called Bali Aga, which means “original Bali,” because of their continuance of some pre-Hindu practices. Gamelan selonding still play at temple anniversary festivals in Bali Aga villages, but now are also found outside of these villages.
