Rarung—daughter, servant, and main student, or sisia, of Rangda—often appears in the dance-drama Calonarang. Rarung’s name means “to discard or dispose of completely,” a term that also refers to ritually slaughtered animals that are given to demons as sacrificial offerings. Like Rangda, Rarung has fangs and a long tongue covered with flames; flames also flare above her bulging eyes and out of the sides of her mouth. Rarung’s face is a dark, blood-red color and her long, wild hair is black.
