Topeng

Topeng, the name of which means “mask,” is a masked dance-drama based on historical chronicles. Topeng is frequently danced at temple ceremonies, life-cycle ceremonies, and culture shows for tourists. A single dancer, who is also a ritual specialist, performs the ritual form, Topeng Pajegan. Topeng Panca, which means “five masks,” features several dancers interpreting multiple roles.
