On February 2, the Spurlock Museum celebrated the accomplishments of our volunteers in 2003. About 20 of our 60 active volunteers braved the winter weather to join staff and students for a social afternoon of board games.

Although the reception was all fun and games, Spurlock volunteers make a serious contribution to all aspects of work in the Museum. In 2003, volunteers contributed over 3,700 hours—the equivalent of 2 full-time employees and an in-kind donation of thousands of dollars. They work both with the public and behind the scenes, helping staff with a wide variety of projects, from researching collections and processing artifact data to organizing fundraising events and giving tours. Museum Director Douglas Brewer announced that because of this year’s total—and many other years of contributions—the Spurlock Museum volunteers will be added to our list of major donors displayed in the lobby.

Thanks again to our volunteers—an essential piece of the Spurlock puzzle!
