In 2004, "A Celebration of Souls: Day of the Dead in Southern Mexico" proved to be one of the Museum’s most popular Campbell Gallery exhibits. Over 400 visitors placed offerings on our altar to commemorate those they loved and respected. Numerous tour and family groups came through the exhibit to observe the holiday or learn more about it.
On the afternoon of October 21st, the Spurlock Museum will honor the Day of the Dead once again with the event "From the Beyond: A Celebration of Spirits." At noon, the band Sones de Mexico will perform in the Campbell lobby and at 2 PM Latina storyteller Tersi Bendiburg will present folktales in the Knight Auditorium. The band concert is free. Admission for the storytelling concert is $5. Bring the whole family for this afternoon of entertainment.
In the evening, our celebration of spirits continues with an adults-only (14 and up) ghost story concert in the Knight Auditorium. The evening’s tellers will be Tersi Bendiburg, Janice Del Negro, Kim Sheahan, and Dan Keding. Admission is $5.
