Experience music, story, song, and dance from around the world without taking out your passport! Come to WorldFest 2009 at the Spurlock Museum on February 28 from 12:30-4 PM! Our fourth WorldFest Celebration features the following performances:

Polish music and dance by the Lira Ensemble

(Performances at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:30)
The Lira is the only professional company in the United States specializing in this type of performance. The presentations are complemented by narratives that tell about the music and dance presented, explain Polish traditions and customs, and give insights into Polish history and the Polish-American immigrant experience.

Chinese Silk-and-Bamboo Ensemble, directed by Priscilla Tse

(Performances at 12:30 and 1:30)
Priscilla Tse is a graduate of the Chinese Music Conservatory in Beijing, holds an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawaii, and is a doctoral student in Musicology at the U of I. The Chinese Silk-and-Bamboo Ensemble she directs plays classical Chinese instrumental music.

Manda Drumming Ensemble, directed by Moussa Bolokada Conde

(Performance at 3:00)
Moussa Bolokada Conde is a Visiting Lecturer in the Center for World Music. He is a master drummer, an expert of Malinke rhythms, and one of world's best djembe players. Bolokada is the musical director and lead soloist of Ballet Waraba in North Carolina, Ballet Wassa-Wassa in Santa Cruz, California, and Les Percussion Malinke in the San Francisco Bay Area.

World folktales with Kim Sheahan

(Performances at 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30)
Kim is the Museum's resident storyteller and assistant director of education. She tells stories to audiences of all ages throughout central Illinois.
