DESCRIPTION:"\rPalestinian rapper Kareem and his singer girlfriend Manar struggle, love, and make music in Lyd, 20 minutes outside of Tel Aviv. The two deal with family tragedy and pressures as well as land usage policies that upset their lives. Screenplay by Tamer Nafar (who stars as Kareem) and Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Time Out of Mind). \r\rA discussion with film co-writer/actor/rapper Tamer Nafar will follow the screening.\r\rThis film is in conjunction with a discussion on Music and Conflict with Nili Belkind, Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities and Ted Swedenburg, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Arkansas, which will be held at 4:00 PM at the Levis Faculty Center, 919 W. Illinois St. in Urbana.\r\rThis event is presented by the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and is paid for in part by a grant from the U.S Department of Education Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program.\r"
