SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:"Time Machine: UIUC Student Life"
DESCRIPTION:"\rWhat music, food, fashions, and pastimes have been the bee’s knees, fab, and groovy since 1867? How have students worked not only to make friends and pass exams\rbut also to lobby for change and make campus more welcoming? Hop in the Time Machine and travel back through student life over the last 150 years. Special campus guest presenters include the Student Life and Culture Archives and the Alumni Association. Activities include demonstrations, historic photos, maps. All ages welcome. \r\rAt 2:00 pm, join us for the 30-minute talk “Class Rivalries at the University of Illinois\r.” Class rivalries were intense at the University of Illinois in its early years. This spirit of competition gave rise to class battles, such as tugs-of-war and other organized games, out-and-out brawls, and the hazing of freshmen by upper classes. Join Ryan Ross, coordinator of the Illinois Alumni Association’s History and Traditions Programs, to learn more about Boneyard ducking, eye water, color rush, sack rush, and push ball.\rSpurlock SundaysThe Spurlock Museum hosts weekly winter and spring programs for the whole family!\r\rThese events include hands-on artifacts, crafts, and mini-tours of the Museum. Spurlock Sundays cover 3 different series: Artifact Encounters, Arts Explorations, and the Spurlock Time Machine. The programs run every Sunday through May, 1:00–3:30 pm.\r\rArtifact Encounters will be held on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month from January 7 through May 20. Get up close on mini-tours of exhibits and collections, try hands-on artifacts, and go head to head with your friends playing some new multicultural board games.\r\rArts Explorations are themed art projects for adults and older kids. Sample projects include Valentines, Faberge-inspired Easter eggs, and Japanese cloth folding. These activities are on the 2nd Sunday of each month.\r\rThe Spurlock Time Machine travels through thousands of years of history as it explores Ancient Rome (January 28), UIUC student life (February 25), American Indian cultures (March 25), Ancient China (April 22), and historic games (May 27). The Time Machine touches down on the 4th Sunday of the month.\r\rStudents studying at Grainger Engineering Library. Image courtesy of University of Illinois Public Affairs.\r"
