SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:"Winter Tales Workshop: Connecting to the Past"
DESCRIPTION:"\rInterested in learning more about Native American history and thought? On March 3 from 9:00 am to noon, the Spurlock Museum will host the workshop Connecting to the Past by SleepyEye LaFromboise (Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and Tonawanda Seneca). SleepyEye will lead a discussion of the relevance of Native Creation Stories, traditional Native philosophy, and historical events and why this information is important in addressing contemporary issues faced in today’s society. The workshop is free, but reservations are required.\r\rLaFromboise travels extensively with his work centering on Native American youth empowerment through cultural and spiritual sustainment. His work also focuses on Native American cultural sensitivity and wellness training for organizations, tribes, and individuals. He has been a member of the United National Intertribal Youth, Inc. (UNITY) for over 20 years and is also the Fire Keeper for the organization. Through his empowerment lens, he applies storytelling through song, prayer, and teaching as the tool for all. \r\r"
