SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:"Time Machine: Planets, Stars, and the Moon"
DESCRIPTION:"\rThis family-friendly event explores the many ways that we bring celestial objects into our daily lives. Activities include a gallery treasure hunt, an exploration of touchable objects, and a concert of sky-related folktales. Admission is free. Our special guest will be Dave Leake from Parkland's Staerkel Planetarium. He will bring in meteorites to touch, as well as lead hands-on activities for all ages. At 2 PM, Dave will give us all the news on \"What's Up\" on the sky-watching scene.\r\rThe Time Machine touches down on the first Sunday of every month from June through August. Look for different types of programs on every Sunday of each month.\rSpurlock Summer Sundays: Explore the Natural World\rThis summer, we’re exploring the natural world with three month-long series of programs on precious metals, planets & stars, and plants. We’ll look at the ways different cultures have used natural resources, explained natural phenomena, and found inspiration in the world around them. Examine artifacts, join in songs and stories, and dig into sample materials. Experts from around town and campus will offer demonstrations and discussions. All programs are free and available on a drop-in schedule. \r\rEach month has a distinct theme, with a series of programs for different ages and learning styles within those themes. The first Sunday of each month is a Time Machine that features multiple activities, presenters, and performers around the Museum. The third Sunday of each month is an Arts Exploration, offering visitors an opportunity to create a different special art project. All other Sundays feature docent-led activities such as mini-tours, scavenger hunts, and touch carts with hands-on artifacts.\rOther Events in the SeriesJune: Silver and Gold\r6/3 Time Machine\r6/10 Docent-Led\r6/17 Arts Exploration\r6/24 Docent-Led\rJuly: Planets, Stars, and the Moon\r7/1 Time Machine\r7/8 Docent-Led\r7/15 Arts Exploration\r7/22 Docent-Led\r7/29 Docent-Led\rAugust: Plants\r8/5 Time Machine\r 8/12 Docent-led\r8/19 Arts Exploration\r8/26 Docent-Led\r\r"
