SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:"Talk: \"Contemporary Archaeology and Refugee Resettlement\" by Erin P. Riggs"
DESCRIPTION:"\rPart of the Archaeological Institute of America Lecture Series\r\rWhat can be gained by using archaeological methods to analyze contemporary material processes? Materials provide more than supplementary evidence of well documented recent pasts. This talk presents research that uses archaeology to consider 1947 Partition refugee rehabilitation efforts in Delhi, India. In this context, Archaeology allows us to evaluate how resettlement schemes have shaped built landscapes, the trajectories of individual families, and understandings of national belonging. By providing a critical evaluation of the outcome of 70 years of resettlement processes in one city, this research contributes to broader discussions about effective ways of approaching refugee crises in the modern world.\r\rThis talk is organized by the Central Illinois Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (external link).\r\r"
