SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:"Talk: “Constructing Solidarities in the Global Justice Movement: A Feminist Perspective” by Manisha Desai"
DESCRIPTION:"\rPart of the CAS/MillerComm Lecture Series.\r\rProfessor Desai will discuss the politics of transnational projects to build links and solidarities between movements of women activists differently situated in local and global systems of power. She will share insights gained from sustained engagements with the dynamic ways in which localized movements challenge global injustices while insisting on differences. How do differently situated and subordinated groups learn from one another? How do we build bonds of solidarity necessary to sustain a global movement for justice?\r\rThe CAS/MillerComm public events series brings to campus people who offer unique cross-disciplinary contributions to the intellectual and cultural life of the university.\r\rThis Center for Advanced Study event is hosted by the Center for Global Studies in conjunction with the Center for African Studies, Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, College of Education, Department of Anthropology, Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science, Department of Political Science, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Department of Sociology, Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, International Area Studies Library, LAS Global Studies, and the Program in Women and Gender in Global Perspectives.\r"
