Zahn Learning Center Open Hours: And the Oscar Goes to...

Enhance your Spurlock Museum experience with activities in the Zahn Learning Center. During ZLC Open Hours (ZLC OH), visitors can enjoy exhibit or cultural-related crafts, and access to teaching artifacts and books. $2 per crafter to cover materials. Weekend parking is free in non-metered, non-reserved spots in lot D 22, behind the Museum (enter lot on Oregon).

The day before the 2016 Academy Awards, enjoy movie-related activities in the ZLC and out in the galleries. Walk the red carpet and look at a number of motion strips in a zoetrope, a pre-film animation device which was created in the 1830's. Design your own animation strip and test it in the zoetrope. Watch clips of nominated films on our miniature movie screen. Fans of the movie "Inside Out" can go out into the galleries with a special sheet of artifact faces -- can they guess which emotion is portrayed by the expression? Back in the ZLC they can play with emotion masks and see how different they look with a new mouth shape or different pair of eyes. Adult movie fans may enjoy our artifact cards which will lead them to pieces in the galleries related to nominated films, such as a grizzly bear claw necklace (The Revenant), a Leningrad Medallion (Bridge of Spies), a 1984 Apple IIC computer (Steve Jobs), and more. Take home a voting ballot and feel free to share your pics with ZLC staff.
