Monica M. Scott

Monica was born in 1978 and grew up in Los Angeles. After her undergraduate degree from the historically Black Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she received her Master’s in Museum Education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She came to the Champaign area several years ago as the Spurlock Museum’s Public Education and Volunteer Coordinator.

Monica talks about her experiences with Bounce, a style of New Orleans hip hop originating out of the city’s housing projects in the 1980’s. She discusses the Electric Slide and how dance is such an integral part of African American culture.
