
Silk-Reeling Basics Workshop

- Cost: $50/person (includes 80 silk cocoons, plastic spools, and degumming materials)
Follow in the footsteps of Empress Hsi Ling Shi, credited in Chinese legend with the discovery of silk reeling, and learn the ancient art of how to reel thread from silk cocoons. The basics of silk reeling will be covered. Cocoons for reeling will be provided. Silk reeling equipment will be provided and will also be available for purchase. Students will go home with one spool of raw silk thread and one spool of degummed flat silk thread (suitable for embroidery). Itomakis (antique Japanese silk bobbins) will be available for purchase.
Skill level of students: Beginning.
Space is very limited, and pre-registration is required.
