Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon: Peer Mentor Training

Last year, through Art + Feminism, more than 2500 participants created or improved over 6500 articles on Wikipedia. In connection with Art + Feminism, the Spurlock Museum, University Library, Native American House, and Women’s Resources Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are co-sponsoring a Wikipedia edit-a-thon. Inspired by women artists of the W. Dale and Jeanne C. Compton Collection of Native American Art at Spurlock Museum, the edit-a-thon seeks to update and add Wikipedia entries of Pueblo women artists from the American Southwest.

The Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is seeking high school and university students to act as peer mentors for the edit-a-thon. Peer mentors learn the basics of Wikipedia editing on Sunday, September 23. We invite all women- and girl-identified students to attend this exciting opportunity. Training will focus on Wikipedia editing and aspects of the collection we’ll be highlighting. Peer mentors are encouraged to bring a laptop if they have one available. A limited number of computers are provided. Pre-registration (external link) for this free event is required. Lunch will be provided.
