Native November Dance Exhibition: Learn and Engage with Native American Dancers

Join us for a Native American House and Spurlock Museum Native November dance exhibition. Friday, November 16 at 4:00 pm Spurlock Museum will host an interactive Native American dance exhibition highlighting the Men’s Traditional and Woodlands styles. This event will also feature Northern style singing by the Bad River Singers. The group comes to us from the Bad River and Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Nations. The Ojibwe are among the Tribal Nations whose homelands included what is now known as Illinois.

Guests can expect to learn the importance of regalia worn in the dances, including aspects of its creation, meaning, and use. The artists will help guests understand how songs and dances hold significance for Tribal communities. The audience will be able to participate in round and two-step dances. This free public program welcomes both families and adults.
The Spurlock galleries will be open before and during this program and visitors can take a look at objects in the North American gallery, including Grass Dance regalia.
