In 2012, Robert and Donna Spina Helmholz donated over 300 objects from such diverse countries in Southeast and East Asia and the Middle East. This donation adds significantly to our objects related to people who were, previously, minimally represented in our permanent collections. By collecting objects detailing religious and daily life in Tibet, among the Naga of India, and Japan, we are able to present a more nuanced story of the range of individuals that reside within these countries.
The display features objects of personal adornment, providing insight into notions of beauty and societal status within a culture, as well as items for the preparation and service of tea and coffee.
