CANCELED: Artifact Art Project Exhibit

The Spurlock Museum invites students in grades K–5 to be a part of our Artifact Art Project during spring 2022. For the Project, we are asking the students to visit the Museum, pick an artifact that inspires them, and create a personal, original artwork that shows that inspiration.

On the weekend of March 11–13, we will make our Central Core Gallery available for the display of as many of these artworks as we can. In order to create this space, we are asking those who would like to participate to read the instructions below and complete the registration information in the form.

Instructions:

  1. Visit the Spurlock Museum during the month of March.
  2. Pick an artifact that will be the inspiration for your artwork. Write down the name and Museum number of the artifact. The Museum number is a three-part number (e.g., 1956.09.0329) or a P followed by 5 numbers (e.g., P00356).
  3. Create your artwork. It can be 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional. It must fit easily within a space that is 18” x 18” X 18”. We recommend that 2-dimensional artworks be framed for easy display. No food products can be used in the artwork (e.g., no macaroni art). Please do not submit artworks that produce sound or encourage touching.
  4. Complete the registration information on the form and send the form and a picture of the artwork to Kim Sanford at. You will receive a reply email from Kim.
  5. All artworks submitted, no matter how many, will be featured in March posts on the Museum’s Facebook page, as long as permission for posting is given. Artworks will be accepted for display in the Museum until the maximum number of spaces are filled (estimated at 60). You will be told in your reply email if spaces are still available.
  6. Artworks that will be going on display must be delivered to the Museum between 2:00 and 5:30 pm on Wednesday, March 9 or between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 10. They will be on display March 11–13.
  7. Artworks must be picked up between 12:30 and 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 15.

Submit this registration form and a picture of the artwork to Kim Sanford by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2022.
