Poets Angie Estes and Janice N. Harrington will present an evening of imagery and word art. Join us for the premier reading of Estes’ Last Day on Earth in the Eternal City and for poems celebrating a lifetime of writing by Janice N. Harrington. This poetry celebration is sponsored by the Spurlock Museum and the UIUC Creative Writing Program.
Angie Estes’ seventh book of poems, Last Day on Earth in the Eternal City (Unbound Edition Press, March 2025). Her award-winning books have received the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Prize and the Audre Lorde Prize for Lesbian Poets, the Alice Fay di Castagnola Prize, and the Peregrine Smith Poetry Prize as well as numerous other recognitions.
“Reading a poem by Estes is like listening in on the intricate turnings and realizations of a brilliant mind, a mind that follows one path only to discover another more surprising one, a mind that observes with an acuteness and intelligence I can only envy.” —Kevin Prufer
Janice N. Harrington’s new book is Yard Show (BOA). She is an award-winning poet and the author of many children’s books, including The Chicken-Chasing Queen of Lamar County and Catching a Storyfish. Harrington teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Illinois.
