Spurlock Sunday: Community Fab Lab

This Spurlock Sunday activity will take place at Skeuomorph Press, located within UI’s on-campus Community Fabrication Laboratory (external link). Entrance to Skeuomorph Press and the ‘Fab Lab’ is free to the public.
Spurlock Sunday attendees will gather at Skeuomorph Press in the back of the Fab Lab beginning at 10:00 am. The specific activity for this session involves exploring how to use some of the various materials in our collection and creating a collaborative poster using one of our printing presses. Guests are welcome to take home an example of the poster afterwards. Guests are also welcome to explore our typewriter collection and zine cart to create a mini-book of their very own. All experience levels, backgrounds, and ages are welcome to come, create, and meet someone new!
About the Fab Lab
The Community Fab Lab (external link) houses a collection of historical printing presses, typewriters, vintage computers, and more. The lab values DIVERSITY and PLAY, encouraging people to become MAKERS by exploring the entire design process. Skeuomorph Press focuses on ways old and new media can connect with one another, combining newer technologies like the Fab Lab’s laser cutters and 3D printers with traditional methods and machines from book history. with very low-cost material fees.
About the Series
Spurlock Sundays are free, drop-in programs held on one Sunday of the month from 1:00–3:30 pm. Programs are open to visitors of all ages and developed with youth and family in mind. Spurlock Sunday activities can take a multitude of forms, from crafts, games, performances, topical open-mic sharing, community conversations, and hands-on experiences with cultural artifacts.
