In April 2026, the Non-Tenure Faculty Coalition NTFC Local #6546 reaches its 10-year milestone, commemorating a decade since the signing of its first Collective Bargaining Agreement following a historic strike in April 2016. This exhibition documents the union’s development from its first organizing efforts, strike, and negotiations to its present position within the Champaign-Urbana community.
The works include 12 large-scale collages printed on banners, incorporating archival photographs and documents sourced from NTFC members. Photographs were finalized by Advanced Photography students under the direction of Teaching Associate Professor of Studio Art Rachel Fein-Smolinski. Interactive augmented reality captions were developed by ARTE 260 Museums in Action students under the direction of Teaching Assistant Professor of Art Education Dr. Somi Lee, in collaboration with the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL).
This exhibition is organized by Dr. Somi Lee and Rachel Fein-Smolinski, School of Art & Design, College of Fine & Applied Arts, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
