WorldFest: Dennis Stroughmatt and L’Esprit Creole (Creole Music Performers)

While many people know of the French-speaking Cajun and Creole culture that continues to thrive today in the state of Louisiana, few know the story of the French Creoles of “Upper” Louisiana and the remnants of still-thriving French cultures in towns like Vincennes, Indiana, and Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. Dennis Stroughmatt and his band, L’Esprit Creole (formerly Creole Stomp), take you on a musical tour of French settlement in North America. Emphasis is on the French Creole settlers’ music, language, and history from Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana. Note: The ensemble that will be coming to Urbana is a four-piece band, not the five-piece band pictured on the website.

Special Parking Notice for WorldFest: Gregory Street in front of the Museum will be blocked off to traffic May 2 through 9 for the Biennial Conference for Women event at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Best suggestions for parking are along Oregon Street or in University lot D-22, both on the south side of the Museum. Please park only in the University lot spaces that do not have 24/7 rental signs.
