Research Remarks
Published Description | Rogers: A haematite seal from Cappadocia, very unusal in charcter. Small figures human and animal are thrown together in confusion on the seal. Perhaps the most interesting of which are the horse, the ape, and the merman. Porada: Above: A kneeling man with raised hand before a lion standing above a prostrate man figure; a reversed man with clasped hands, and a mongoose; a figure in a tiered skirt, with clasped hands, before two prostrate human figures lying in opposite directions, with an animal behind the lower figure. Middle: A cow with a suckling calf; a man kneeling on noe knee; a large sitting figure with outstretched legs and clasped hands, a smaller figure in a similar posture, reversed above second man kneeling on one knee, who faces a third figure with outstretched legs and clasped hands; a large sitting monkey, and a second reversed figure with outstretched legs. Below: Two figures crouching on the ground, with heads turned backwards, and a third between them, placed in the opposite direction. |
