Description | This Greek coin is a silver Triobol or Drachm from Athens. It was struck in the 5th century BCE. The obverse is a profile of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, war, and peace and patron of Athens, wearing a helmet. The reverse is an owl, symbol of Athena, head facing forward. To the left of the owl is an olive twig, the gift that Athena gave to the Athenians. To the right of the owl are the letters ΑΘΕ (Alpha Theta Epsilon) denoting the coin is from Athens. |
