Description | This Greek coin is a Drachm from Athens. It was struck in 430 BCE. The obverse contains a profile of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, war, and peace and patron of Athens, wearing a helmet. The reverse is an owl, the symbol of Athens, head facing forward. To the left of the owl is an olive twig, the tree Athena gifted to the Athenians. To the right are the letters ΑΘΕ (Alpha Theta Epsilon) denoting the coin is from Athens. |
