Research Remarks
Description | This Greek coin is bronze, though the denomination is unknown. It is from the ancient city Erythrae in Ionia, modern day Turkey. It was cast in the 3rd century BCE. The obverse is Hercules wearing a lion’s skin. The reverse contains three lines of text. The first is the letters MHTPA (Mu Eta Tau Rho Alpha) then perhaps an I (Iota). The next line is ΔΑΜΛ (Delta Alpha Mu Alpha) then perhaps an O (Omicron). The last line contains the letters EPY (Epsilon Rho Upsilon). |
