Research Remarks

Description

This Greek coin is a silver Drachm from Epidamnus in Illyria or northern Greece. It was struck in the mid-3rd to late 2nd century BCE. The obverse is a cow looking back at a suckling calf. Above the cow are the letters ΦΙΛΩΤΑΣ (Phi Iota Lambda Omega Tau Alpha Sigma). The reverse is a double stellate pattern. Around the image are the letters ANO/POΣ/ΔYP/KΛE (Alpha Nu Omicron / Rho Omicron Sigma / Delta Upsilon Rho / Kappa Lambda Epsilon).
