MN 1 MN 1 MN 1 MN 1 2. MN 1 MN1 MN 1 MN 1 3. MN 1 e 4. VACAT Comment The V series of tablets also record tribute and offerings (see Tablet Fp 13). Tablet V 479 records a list of men's names followed by the number 1. It is not clear whether the men themselves were the tribute (slaves?) or if these men gave some type of tribute, the names of which are now lost. The latter is more probable in this case. This tablet is unusual in shape, being curved in the fashion of a pithos (storage jar) rim rather than the more usual leaf or tablet shapes. It may have been formed by pressing the soft clay against such a vessel -- as far as can be determined from the original photograph, the tablet was made of the same material as the other tablets, as (sic) is not a re-ursed pot sherd. |
