Description

APULIAN GNATHIA KANTHAROS
Shape and Ornament: Ribbed body, set off at top by a line and above the foot by a groove, ring handles. On both sides of lip is a dot ivy spray. Upside-down palmettes at base of each handle and dots on edge of foot. Upper foot reserved and reddened, underside of foot partially glazed.
ACCESSORY COLORS White: line. Yellow: dot ivy spray, upside-down palmettes.
Attributed by J.R. Green (in a letter dated 8/14/79) to the Painter of Zurich 2692 or is workshop. About 300 B.C. -- Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 58, 4.
