Research Remarks

Description

APULIAN RED-FIGURE PLATE
Shape and Ornament: Convex body, slightly offset rim, disk foot. Interior rim reserved with vertical lines. On the exterior, rim reserved and covered with a red wash, band above foot reserved. SUBJECT: On the interior, a woman's head in profile to left. She wears a necklace, a stephane, and a sakkos. A tympanum (?) in front of her face, a floral behind her neck. Around the head, a wave pattern, a band, and a lotus wreath.
Accessory Colors: White: lotus buds. Yellow: sakkos, stephane, necklace, and tympanum.
Attributed to the Kantharos Group of the White Saccos Workshop by A. D. Trendall (in a letter dated 8/3/79). About 320-310 B.C. -- Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 52,3; 55,3.
