Published Description

APULIAN RED FIGURE FOOTED PYXIS AND LID
Shape and Ornament: Round pyxis, convex knob on lid, stepped foot. Reserved bands on knob of lid, below the laurel wreath on pyxis, and at top and bottom of stepped foot. SUBJECT: Primary decoration on the lid. On one side, a female head, seen in profile facing left flanked by volutes. Palmette on reverse. Laurel wreath on body of pyxis. Accessory color: Yellow: woman's sakkos, stephane, and necklace.
From Rome. Attributed as a late product of the Kantharos Group in the White Saccos Workshop by A. D. Trendall (in a letter dated 8/3/79). About 320-310 B. C. -- Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 50, 1.
