Research Remarks

Published Description

CORINTHIAN KOTHON Shape and Ornament: Round body, flaring foot, horizontal strap handle. Shoulder decorated with three narrow bands; two glaze bands, one on lower body and one just above the foot. Four concentric bands on the folded lip. On the shoulder, band of slashes. On the underside of the base, two concentric bands in glaze. Accessory Colors: red: one narrow band, two alternate concentric bands, and alternate slashes. Buff clay, dark brown glaze. Cracked handle, glaze slightly worn. Interior painted brown on bottom of bowl only. About 575 B.C. -- Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 2, 5.
