Research Remarks

Description

CAMPANIAN RED-FIGURE BAIL-AMPHORA: Shape and Ornament: Torus mouth, round handle with oblique grooves and knob on top, flaring foot. On neck, elongated tongues. Scrolls and band on shoulder. On body, full palmettes on either side, reserved band below figured scenes. Glaze stops inside neck.
Subject: A, Woman's head, seen in profile facing left. She wears a patterned sakkos, stephane, necklace, and earring with triple dots. B, Standing youth, facing left with spear in his right hand and cloak on his left arm. Relief contour for cloak, genitals, features of youth. Dilute glaze for sakkos details, eyebrow on A; youth's sandals on B.
Accessory Colors: Yellow: A, stephane, earring, necklace, and ribbon. B, headdress, jewelry, and sandals.
