Research Remarks

Description

CORINTHIAN (?) PYXIS AND LID
Shape and Ornament: Convex body with flaring foot and reflex handles. Slightly concave lid with conical, flaring handle. Pyxis: Wide glaze band on interior, two wide bands on exterior of body and foot. Zigzags between exterior bands. Edge of foot glazed. Lid: glazed except for broad reserved band with key pattern, dots, and a border are esses around a depression with glazed bans.
Accessory Colors: red: dilute lines on lid, alternating bands on top of handle.
Late Corinthian, about 550 B.C. --Wisseman, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum, Plate 2, 8.
