Research Remarks
Published Description | France - First Iron Age, large socketed celt with a constricted neck with fluted lateral sides 25.1 mm long. Blade is rectangular and larger than at the butt end. Two holes have been drilled, one on each lateral side, probably in recent times. Ear is placed on face side and is 25.1 mm long, 4.7 mm wide, and 5.5 mm high and attached by heat fusion rather than moulded with the celt. Socket and butt end are round, socket conical in form, diameter of socket 18.0 mm. This style is found in the First and Second Iron Ages in France. A very similar example is in Mohen, p. 157. This parallel is from Rambouillet, France, a city where some objects from the Baudon collection have also come, supporting the assumption that the Baudon collection is for the most part from French excavations. |
