Research Remarks

Published Description

Kroll Class V with same seal and section-letter format as in Class IV (Section-letter in upper left corner, triobol seal beneath, and gorgoneion seal at right. Double-bodied owl secondary seal.) Owner’s names inscribed with added pierced holes. Kroll catalog no. 88 (fig. 151) Athens National Museum Inv. Bronze 8064. In Greek: Z in square punch; Epichares on line 1. Triobol in circular punch; hAlaie[us] double-bodied owl in square punch; gorgonioneion in circular punch on line 2. Epikrates Epicharous Halieus mentioned in a votive inscription dated 400–350 BCE (IG II2, 4884) could be the owner’s son or father.
