Silver dirhem, c. 1284–1288 (683-686 AH)
Mint: Tiflis, Gurjistan, Georgia in Caucasia
Yale Collection.

Obverse: Inscription: Kaghanu, nere-ber, Arghun-u, deledgegülügsen, Arghun, translated line by line as “Of the Khaqan, In the name, By Arghun, Struck, Arghun” or “Struck in the name of the Khan, Arghun” (four-lines in Uighur- Mongol script and language); and “Arghun ” (fifth line: the name Arghun repeated in Arabic script)

Reverse: Inscription within square: Christian pious formula, cross and ornamental motif, with date inscribed outside the square: bism al-ab wa’l-ibn wa’l-ruh al-quds, al-ilah al-wahid, translated as “In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit—the One God” (Arabic language)
