From the catalogue, An Exhibition of Medieval Brass Rubbings by Kathleen H. Cairns. "John de Campenden, 1382, warden of the hospital, canon of Southwell. In cope, Margin inscription is text from Job XIX, 25-27. Shields of the Passion and the Trinity. MARGIN INSCRIPTION: I believe that my Redeemer liveth. I will rise again from the earth in the last day. I shall be girt around again with my skin and in my flesh. I will see the Lord by Savior whom I will see. For nothing else is this my hope laid away in my breast. MOUTH SCROLLS: Jesus, when Thou comest to judge, do not condemn me. Thou who molded me, take pity on me. INSCRIPTION: Here lies John Campenden once Warden of this Hospital. May God have mercy on his soul.
