Research Remarks
Published Description | From Bontell: This noble brass exemplifies the practice of placing some ornamental device between each word of a border-legend, which first appears about the commencement of the fifteenth century. The jupon has its border deeply cut to a leaf-like pattern. This Sir Nicholas Dagworth was a person of high eminence under King Edward III. and King Richard II. From the catalogue, An Exhibition of Medieval Brass Rubbings by Kathleen H. Cairns: "Sir Nicholas Dagworth, 1401, Lord of Blickling. In camail period armor. The fringe on his jupon is particularly beautiful, as are his gauntlets. His head rests on his tilting helmet. The end of his anelace is missing on the brass." |
