Description | Description from 1971-72 exhibit catalog by Kathleen Cairns: "Ipswich, Museum--Thomas Pownder, 1525. In civil dress, with wife and two sons and six daughters, his merchant mark, and the arms of the City Ipswich. One son is in academic dress, the other in civil dress with a satchel at his belt. The daughters are dressed like the mother with rosaries hanging from their belts. The brass, from a Flemish workshop, is covered with beautiful diaper work. Border inscription is in English with four Evangels at the corners. |
