Description | Description from 1971-72 exhibit catalog by Kathleen Cairns: "Stoke d'Abernon--Sir John d'Abernon, 1277. In complete chain mail armour and surcoat with enamelled shield, which bears his arms. Margin inscription in French in single Lombardics lost. He was Sheriff of Sussex. The oldest existing brass in England." |
