Published Description

From Bontell: The armour in this specimen is very plain, and without any of the additional plates in use at the period. The taces are nine in number. The effigy of Lady Halsham is singularly graceful and elegant. The original brass had a commemorative inscription on a border-fillet, but of this a few words only now remain: the complete legend was a follows:— HIC JACET HUGO HALSHAM, MILES, QUI OBIT ULTIMO DIE MENSIS FEBRUARIJ, ANO . DNI . MILLMO. CCCC . XXXXI . ET DOMINA JOCOSA UXR EIUS QUE OBIIT ... MENSIS AUGUSTI . ANO DNI. MILLMO. CCCXX PRIMO. QUOR. ANIMAB. PPICIET. DEUS. Bontell, Monumental Brasses of England (1849).
